Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly filmed a new movie in secret: it’s the sequel to one of his most iconic characters

Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the most renowned actors and filmmakers of recent decades. Although he is best known for his comedic roles, with characters like Borat and Aladeen, he has also ventured into other genres and delivered outstanding performances. Even those who haven’t followed his career will recognize his face, as he recently played Mephisto in the Disney+ series ‘Ironheart.’ However, his film debut came much earlier, in the early 2000s. The character he portrayed was one of his own creation, who first appeared on a British television show.

That character is Ali G, who starred in his own movie in 2002. The film itself was a satire of British politics, as well as a parody of the aesthetic of hip-hop artists of the time who sported a gangster look. Now, twenty-four years later, Deadline has reported that Cohen may have secretly filmed a sequel. Although no details about the project are known, it’s striking that he was able to film it without it coming to light until now.

Ali G has quite a history

The character was one of the first Cohen played in his career. He made his debut on ‘The Eleven O’Clock Show’ on Channel 4, where he interviewed all kinds of personalities. Although the comedian intended to satirize the traits he portrayed, the seriousness with which he presented himself led some interviewees to believe he was actually like that. His success led to his own television series in 2000, which also featured other iconic characters, such as Bruno and Borat. In the series, he sought to portray life in the United States through mock interviews and reports.
