Sadie Sink didn’t know her ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ role until she reached the set

The ‘Stranger Things’ star explains how she joined the MCU without a script, an audition, or prior knowledge of her role.

Update:

We know that Marvel Studios has always been very secretive about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plot twists, cameos, and even false details in trailers have all been part of a culture of surprising audiences in theaters… and even their own actors. The most recent example is the role Sadie Sink will play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’—something even the actress didn’t know until she was already on the set.

In a recent interview with Nylon, the actress known for ‘Stranger Things’ revealed how she’s managed to keep the secret until now and how difficult it was even for her. “You just don’t share the secret—it’s not that hard,” she said, noting that she has nine years of experience keeping secrets and avoiding giving away details during her time on the Netflix series. “I knew that Marvel was a big deal and had a big brand, especially Spider-Man,” she says. “I know there’s a huge fan base, but it feels really big. I think these blockbuster movies are a whole different beast.”

During the interview, it was revealed that Sink was offered the role because he had previously worked with director Destin Daniel Cretton on ‘The Glass Castle’ in 2017; as a result, he did not audition and did not receive the script until he arrived in London to film.

The premiere is just weeks away

The past few weeks have given us new details about the movie, including a new trailer that has revealed new details. We’ve also learned that this will be the longest film featuring the character among all those starring Tom Holland, clocking in at no less than two and a half hours.

Joining Sadie Sink is Tom Holland as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, along with some returning series staples such as Zendaya (Mary Jane Watson) and Jacob Batalon (Ned). Other confirmed cast members include Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk/Bruce Banner), Krondon (Goblin), though it appears to be Jean Grey), and Michael Mando (Scorpion). There is also speculation about Elektra’s debut in the MCU, with Elodie Yung returning to the role of the Greek ninja after her debut in the second season of ‘Daredevil’.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ premieres on July 31.
