Samuel L. Jackson doesn’t understand his absence in the MCU: “Where was I during Endgame? “
Samuel L. Jackson, the actor behind Nick Fury in the MCU, keeps wondering why his character wasn’t called back to the MCU before, claiming Secret Invasion will be key for The Marvels.
Samuel L. Jackson has been playing Nick Fury in the MCU practically since the beginning of Marvel Studios, being responsible for the creation of the Avengers Initiative from his position in S.H.I.E.L.D., although in recent years his character has gone underground. Despite certain events of the MCU, Nick Fury has been key in many stories of the Marvel Studios movies, although for one reason or another, he has missed some of the biggest crossovers, such as Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame, although for the latter he was one of the victims of Thanos’ snap. However, the actor does not fully understand why a key figure of the MCU has not been present in its most outstanding moments. This was stated by the actor in a recent interview with Empire magazine.
Nick Fury and his absence in the MCU crossovers
Now in the middle of Phase 5 of the MCU, Nick Fury will return to the front line of Marvel Studios thanks to the Secret Invasion series which will be released in June on Disney+, a series in which he will be the main protagonist to prevent a Skrull invasion on earth. Let’s remember that the last time we saw Fury in the MCU was in the already distant post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
“”I was trying to figure out where I was during Civil War, when the kids were fighting and I wasn’t there to say, ‘Everybody go to your room’. Where was I during Endgame? Where was I during Endgame? It’s harder for me not to be there, than be there”, said Samuel L. Jackson. Captain America: Civil War was the perfect occasion for Nick Fury to try to put peace between both fronts; for Endgame it’s a bit more understandable that he couldn’t have done much against Thanos’ army in the mythical return of superheroes considering he had been snapped.
On the other hand, Samuel L. Jackson himself also stated that the Secret Invasion series will be vital to understand what happens in The Marvels, the next UCM movie scheduled for next November of this year. He did not, however, go into further details about how it’ll happen.
