Update:

Saros promised to be at The Game Awards 2025, and Saros more than delivered. Its latest trailer has generated huge hype among fans of Housemarque, the developers behind Returnal. We won’t have to wait long to try it out: it will be released on PS5 on March 20, 2026. You can watch it below this paragraph.

The main differences between Returnal and Saros

Is Saros a roguelike? Everything seems to indicate that it is, given what we’ve seen, even though the studio has made clear the differences between it and its previous work. There will be a fixed progression element that remains after death, although basic resources will still be lost.

After each death, you will face a changing world, but in Saros you can choose and permanently upgrade your equipment from a constantly evolving set of weapons and suit enhancers to “come back stronger” and overcome the challenges in Carcosa.

If we look at any gameplay footage from the game, it looks like Returnal 2. It’s a spiritual sequel, no doubt about it, taking the formula that works so well and mixing it with new features that drive a completely different way of playing than is usual in the genre.

PlayStation has maintained a frenetic pace with the promotional campaign for this game. It was announced in February of this year with an enigmatic teaser, and a few months later we saw it live alongside its release date. Thirteen months after its reveal, it will hit the market. It’s crazy.
