Saruman returns in ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ with Christopher Lee’s likeness
‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ is an animated film set in the Peter Jackson version of Middle Earth that will bring back Christopher Lee’s White Wizard.
History happens, it is transmitted from generation to generation, sometimes it is idealized, and at other times it becomes legend. As a story, Éowyn narrates the events of an ancient war waged by her people, the human kingdom of Rohan. Miranda Otto, the same actress who played the warrior in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, reprises her role in ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’, an animated film directed by Kenji Kamiyama, the filmmaker behind ‘Ghost in the Shell’. Although it does not appear in the Western version of the trailer, Saruman the White makes an appearance in the Japanese version of the trailer. And yes, he looks like Christopher Lee’s version of the character.
Almost two centuries before the War of the Ring, Saruman had not yet fallen into the clutches of evil. The wizard, a Maiar of shining wisdom, sports his characteristic white beard. His hair falls straight well below his shoulders. He wears his characteristic white robe and carries the magic staff that everyone recognizes., the same one that breaks in two at the end of the Extended Edition of ‘The Return of the King’. Although his appearance is identical to that of the film version, it is unknown who plays him in this anime film. Lee passed away in 2015, although he was able to return to being Saruman in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy.
A war between the Rohirrim and the Dunlendings
It all begins with a political marriage: Hera, the daughter of King Helm, is about to marry Wulf, the son of the lord of the Dunlendings. However, the wedding falls apart and the conflict escalates. Due to the failure of the wedding engagement, King Helm “Iron Hand” chases the Dunlendings and the war begins. As seen in the trailer, violence will take over the fields and reach Helm’s Deep, a location that in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ belongs to Rohan, even though it was not his property before.
‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ premieres next December 13th only in theaters. It is the beginning of a rebirth of the saga, since Peter Jackson’s team is preparing two live-action films: the first of them It is tentatively titled ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’.
