Prime Video

Sauron lost a powerful ability in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy that he showcases in ‘The Rings of Power’

The Dark Lord of Mordor is one of the main characters in the second season of ' The Rings of Power’, coming to Prime Video on August 29.

El Señor de los Anillos, Sauron

Sauron was the most powerful of the Maiar, but that did not prevent him from being corrupted by Melkor, a Valar who opposed his brothers and who was also known by the name of Morgoth. During the time Sauron was in the service of Morgoth, he was progressively devoured in the jaws of evil and transformed into the Dark Lord. As shown in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, Sauron’s appearance during the Second Age is different from what he looks like in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. In his corporeal version, he appears wearing black armor and a pointed helmet. On one of his fingers, he has the One Ring, the source of his power, while in his other hand, he carries a lethal mallet.

Although Sauron had a body, few saw his true form. One of them was Gollum, who was tortured by the Dark Lord in Mordor, for he needed to extract the name of the bearer of the Ring. By the Third Age, the Maiar had almost recovered from the damage inflicted by Isildur. However, the character lost one of the powers that he had used on numerous occasions to deceive his enemies: he was able to change his physical form, something that is explored in the Prime Video series.

Sauron the shapeshifter

In the first season of ‘The Rings of Power’, Galadriel begins a desperate crusade in search of Sauron. The elves ignore her warnings, but she is convinced that the Dark Lord has returned. What she doesn’t know is that he is closer than she ever could have thought. Hidden under Halbrand’s skin, Sauron deceives her and poses as an ally, when in reality he is plotting his plans for war and destruction. His status as a shapeshifter is not an invention of the series, but rather a characteristic that was already described by J.R.R. Tokien in ‘The Silmarillion’. The antagonist of the saga could adopt any identity and face he wanted.

The second season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ premieres on August 29 on Amazon’s Prime Video.
