Scarlett Johansson Confesses Her Only Condition for Returning as Black Widow in the MCU
The Black Widow actress responds to rumors of the original Avengers’ return to the MCU by dropping a zombie version of the character.
Scarlett Johansson, the famous actress who played Black Widow as part of the Avengers during the first three phases of the MCU, has responded to rumors about her possible return to Marvel Studios as part of the rumored return of the original Avengers, alongside Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor and the Hulk. This all comes on the heels of Variety’s recent controversial article on the current state of Marvel in film and its future. All in all, Johansson has confirmed the death of her character, although she has hinted at the possibility of returning in a very different way: in a “zombie” movie.
Will Scarlett Johansson return as Black Widow?
In a recent interview with Today (via Screen Rant), Johansson has addressed the rumors about her possible return to the MCU, assuring that she has no idea about those alleged plans by Marvel Studios, joking that if it were to happen, it would be a “zombie film.” She also confirms that Black Widow is definitely dead after her sacrifice in Vormir as part of the plot of ‘Avengers Endgame’.
“I think it might be... I think it was the end, right? I don’t know how you come back from that,” the actress said. Still, Johansson does not rule out a resurrection of the character: “It would be a miracle. It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel,” the actress continues about the potential return of Black Widow. “But, you know, who knows? Eh... I’m not sure,” she concludes.
In reality, there would be no need to resort to a resurrected version of Black Widow, because with the open doors of the multiverse and time and space travel, it would only be necessary to go back to 2012 and recruit the original Avengers for a possible one-time return to the MCU.
Where are the original Avengers in the current MCU?
We may remember that Black Widow, as Scarlett Johansson herself points out, died in Avengers Endgame. The same goes for Tony Stark/Iron Man, who died when the gauntlet broke in the final battle against Thanos. On the other hand, Steve Rogers/Captain America would still be alive in the present, very old and retired. Hawkeye would have already retired after his run, leaving his place to Kate Bishop as the new Hawkeye. Hulk is still in the MCU as Professor Hulk, and Thor is still traveling through space with his adopted daughter.
