Schwarzenegger’s emotional message to Stallone after losing Oscar: “I’m proud of you”
The friendship between the action movie legends was once again on display.

The 88th Academy Awards, held on February 28, 2016, seemed to be the time when Sylvester Stallone would get his coveted statuette once and for all. The actor had already been nominated for Best Actor and Best Screenplay (something only he, Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles have achieved) for ‘Rocky’ in 1977, and wanted to get rid of the thorn after a great supporting role in ‘Creed’ (2015). Everything seemed to be on track when he took home the Golden Globe a few months earlier, which practically confirmed his favoritism. But there are no fairy tales and Mark Rylance was the Oscar winner for his wonderful role in ‘Bridge of Spies’.
Stallone lost his last chance to win an Oscar, and his friend and partner Arnold Schwarzenegger sent him an emotional message via Twitter after the ceremony. “Sly just remember. No matter what they say. To me you are the best. You were the winner. I’m proud of you,” the actor and bodybuilder wrote. Battle buddies on many occasions, the two actors had parallel careers and forged a tireless friendship.
Rivals and partners
During the late 1970s and 1980s, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone maintained a fierce rivalry (on screen) to become the best star and action hero of the moment. Stallone had films such as the entire ‘Rocky’ saga (1976, 1979, 1982, 1985 and 1990) and the ‘Rambo’ franchise (1982, 1985 and 1988) to his credit. Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, had one blockbuster after another with ‘Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’, ‘Conan the Barbarian’, ‘Commando’, ‘Predator’, ‘Total Recklessness’ and one of his comedies, ‘Kindergarten Cop’.
Both actors reunited to star in the saga of ‘The Expendables’, which had its fourth installment last year. The friendship between Schwarzenegger and Stallone has not only been visible on screen, at premieres and so on, but the Austrian was the first to offer encouragement to the ‘Rocky’ actor after he lost the Oscar in 2016.
