Scott Pilgrim The Anime is a reality thanks to Netflix, and the entire movie cast is returning
The rumors of a Scott Pilgrim anime series have finally been confirmed, as Netflix has just announced they’re bringing back the full cast from the movie.
After months of rumors, Netflix has gone ahead and confirmed that production on a Scott Pilgrim animated series has begun, which will bring back all of the original movie cast to voice their respective characters in the show. You can find the official announcement teaser down below.
Officially titled Scott Pilgrim The Anime, this series will bring back Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers. However, the video shows off an amazingly star-studded cast with names such as Chris Evans (Lucas Lee), Brie Larson (Envy Adams), Mark Webber (Stephen Stills), Alisson Pill (Kim Pine), Johnny Simmons (Young Neil), Ellen Wong (Knives Chau), Kieran Culkin (Wallace Wells), Anna Kendrick (Stacey Pilgrim), Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers), Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram), Mae Whitman (Roxy Richter), and Jason Schwartzman (Gideon Graves).
As you can see, almost the entire cast has returned, and as of this moment, we already have confirmation that at least 5 out of the 7 Evil Exes that Scott has to fight against will reprise their movie roles. Now, as to whether or not this is a new adaptation of the original comic series written by Bryan Lee O’Malley, that’s a question that hasn’t quite been answered yet.
“You know Pac-Man?”
O’Malley is present as an executive producer, writer, and showrunner alongside BenDavid Grabinski, while Edgar Wright (who co-wrote, directed, and produced the Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World movie) will act as an executive producer. Wright said that “Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”
It seems as if the series will expand upon what the comics and the movie showed us over ten years ago. There’s still no official release for Scott Pilgrim The Anime, other than a vague “coming soon”, but given that the producers are speaking of starting production on the project we could still be a few years away from its launch.
