A horror franchise that’s clearly in top form.

The ‘Scream’ franchise has become a staple of the slasher film genre, a subgenre of horror in which a killer—usually masked—attempts to murder a group of people using knives. Popularized in the 1970s and 1980s, the slasher genre found new life with the release of Scream in the 1990s and has since remained the genre’s most prominent title.

A franchise that seemed to have lost steam, but ‘Scream 7’ has proven otherwise by becoming the highest-grossing installment in the series. That’s why ‘Scream 8’ is definitely happening. Deadline has reported that the eighth installment has already found its screenwriters: Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, two industry veterans known for their mastery of mystery and suspense.

‘Scream 8’ Looks Set to Be in Very Good Hands

Lilla and Nora Zuckerman have made their mark as showrunners for series such as Poker Face, Prodigal Son, Suits, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the classic Fringe. An eighth installment that appears to be in the best possible hands, adding optimism to the future of a franchise that is proving to be in one of its best moments.

The review of ‘Scream 7’ published on Meristation USA notes the following: “Scream 7 works, although it’s not the best of the franchise. It is not a radical reinvention nor does it redefine the genre as the original did, but it does prove that the formula still holds up. Its greatest virtue is balance: nostalgia without absolute dependence, meta-referencing without saturation, and technological updating without losing the slasher essence.”
