Sea of Thieves improves on PS5: Crossplay, more than 250 trophies and 4K mode
PlayStation 5 owners diving into Rare’s sea of adventures are in for a big surprise with all the improvements for the console.
Sea of Thieves, Rare’s pirate adventure, is just weeks away from arriving on PlayStation 5. Sony console gamers are about to get one of the most robust game-as-a-service experiences in the industry, and it looks like this version will take advantage of many of the console’s built-in systems and features.
Sea of Thieves will launch with a version that takes full advantage of the PlayStation 5
In a post on its blog, Rare has given more details on everything you need to know about the arrival of Sea of Thieves on this console at the end of April. Within these sections, aspects such as cross-play, improvements thanks to DualSense, as well as resolutions are mentioned.
PlayStation 5 Dedicated Servers
By its very nature, and as we have already explained, Sea of Thieves is an experience that seeks to integrate Xbox, PC (both Windows and Steam) and now PlayStation players. Initially, the game will allow everyone to play at the same time and, as the developers explained, “have a crew made up of someone who plays on Windows, someone who plays on Steam, someone who plays on Xbox, someone who plays on PlayStation”. However, as Rare explains, “Pirates playing on PlayStation can deactivate cross-play functionality, thereby restricting their gaming sessions to exclusively include other PlayStation users.”
DualSense Enhancements
With adaptive triggers, haptic vibration and a built-in microphone, the PlayStation 5′s DualSense is a very special controller, which is why it will be used to deliver the following improvements:
Video Optimization
Another of the improvements that Sea of Thieves will have on PlayStation 5 is that it will be optimized to run at 60 FPS in 4K resolution. In addition, a performance mode will be added to be able to play at 120 Hz at a resolution of 1080p, having this parity with the experience that users have on the Xbox Series X.
A huge amount of trophies
Being a game as a service and having been on the market for several years, the number of Achievements it has accumulated has given Xbox users the opportunity to continue growing their Gamerscore. This number of achievements will translate to PlayStation Trophies, unlocking them for players who bring their Xbox or PC adventure to this platform, although Rare clarifies that “although existing achievement progress may result in some Trophies unlocking immediately upon login, players will need to replay to fully unlock Trophies on PS5″. And yes, all 259 Achievements/Trophies will be available and will grow over time. If you want to platinum the game, you only need to complete the first 60 Trophies.
