SEGA has canceled Hyenas ahead of its release, casting doubt in Creative Assembly

Layoffs are expected in Creative Assembly after SEGA announced the cancelation of Hyenas, their upcoming multiplayer sci-fi FPS, and other titles in development.

Update:
Hyenas cancelado desarrollo

SEGA has put an end to one of the biggest western projects in its portfolio. Hyenas, the multiplayer shooter being developed by Creative Assembly, is now canceled because “profitability has been lowered mainly in European bases.” The immediate stop of development of the game is accompanied by other titles that had not yet been revealed. It is also expected that the studio will suffer personnel cuts given the new strategy that the company will take following this decision.

Creative Assembly: beyond Hyenas

Hyenas was announced on June 2022 as a shooter of spectacular heist action in zero gravity. The game was described by the developers as “a hero-based, multiplayer extraction shooter. Choose a Hyena to play as - each with a unique weapon, ability, and personality - to form a crew of three and steal valuable Merch. The action takes place on vast, themed ‘Plunderships’ returning to Mars from Earth, loaded with salvaged Merch for your crew to steal.”

It was expected to arrive sometime in 2023 but will now never see the light of day. Meanwhile, one of the Creative Assembly teams (in Sofia) is preparing for the launch of Total War: Pharaoh coming October 11 to PC. The series travels to ancient Egypt to bring mass combat to the shadow of the Pyramids.

The studio has always been characterized by its star franchise: Total War. The license has taken us to a multitude of periods in the history of humanity to offer rigor, such as with the deliveries of Rome, Empire and Medieval, among others. They have also explored other brands that are part of fantasy, such as the Warhammer trilogy with Games Workshop.
