Senua's Saga Hellblade II: Good reviews with some exceptions

International media are releasing their reviews after the embargo, what do they have to say about Ninja Theory and Microsoft Games’ bet?

The embargo has ended and the international media can now freely express their impressions of the new Ninja Theory title, a sequel made with more resources and budgets of a game whose original title surprised with its story and approach. In Meristation USA we have done the same, in an analysis signed by the good Vladimir Arteaga, who has highlighted its fabulous technical and visual section as “an unforgettable experience that remains not only a great game, but a special reflection on the ghosts that often prevent us from moving forward”.

As for the international reception of the game, there is a wide range of opinions. The UK edition of Eurogamer was the most enthusiastic, giving the game a 5 out of 5 and stating: “Hellblade 2 continues Senua’s story with grace, confidence, surprising brutality and thundering conviction.” Gamespot, however, was less convinced, giving the game a 6/10: " There are plenty of games that prove games can be art, but as some studios lean harder into proving that in one specific way that cribs from Hollywood, we’re seeing some games that feel afraid of being games.” Game Informer gave the game an outstanding 9/10, emphasizing that “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’s conclusion ends on another strong note, and despite my initial reservations about continuing Senua’s story, I walked away happy to see her conquer new monsters, both literal and metaphorical.”

At the time of writing, Ninja Theory’s game has a positive aggregate score of 81 on MetaCritic. An overview of reviews from other media would show this scenario:
