Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance receives new story details and brings release date forward

Atlus gives new details about its upcoming RPG, introducing story, characters and showing a new release date.

The wait for Atlus’ upcoming RPG Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is about to get a lot shorter. The game, which is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows, and Steam, is moving up a week to arrive on June 14 this year.

New story and gameplay

In addition, Atlus also shared new details about the story, characters, and gameplay systems that will be part of this release, which will allow players to enjoy the story of Shin Megami Tensei V in its entirety and with an all-new storyline route.

This new release will present us with two routes: the original route that we met in the original release in 2021, known as Canon of Creation, while we will also have the option of the new route, Canon of Vengeance, which although it starts very similar to the main scenario but changes for the second half of the game with a completely different outcome.

In addition to a new route, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance features improvements to its gameplay systems, both in combat, demon fusion and exploration, adding a new aspect to the story.

  • Press Turn Battle: This combat mode rewards players for exploiting enemy weaknesses. Similar to the systems seen in Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload, hitting an enemy with an attack type they are weak to will give you an extra turn.
  • Magatsuhi Gauge: This gauge will be part of our battles and will fill up as we perform actions. Once filled, we will be able to perform one of the more than 50 Magatsuhi skills, 20 of which have been added to this version, some of which are exclusive to certain demons.
  • Unique Skills: The demons in the game will have their own skills that provide powerful effects when a particular demon is present. Combining demons will allow for more tactical battles.
  • Demon Conversation: During encounters, you can talk to demons to recruit them as allies. In this release, new conversations have been added to deepen the interaction.
  • Guest Characters: Some human guest characters will be able to join your team, and you will be able to use them in the same way as allied demons.
  • Successive Encounters: Finally, after defeating a demon enemy, a new demon may appear to continue the battle. When this happens, an additional bonus of Macca, experience and items will be created.
