‘Shrek 5’ finally gives us a glimpse of what’s to come with its first teaser, showcasing the new adventure of Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona

The DreamWorks sequel is now targeting a summer 2027 release following multiple schedule changes.

Update:

It’s been a long time since we last heard anything about ‘Shrek 5’, the new DreamWorks movie that brings back the ogre beloved by an entire generation after more than 15 years. And finally, today we get our first look at its teaser trailer, which you can watch below:

The teaser shows us a new adventure featuring Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, who will now have to travel to “Further Further Away.” For now, the details of the story remain under wraps, although the trailer hints that this new place they’re visiting isn’t the fairy-tale land one might expect to see. As for the cast, it has been confirmed that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. They are now joined by Zendaya, Marcello Hernandez, and Skyler Gisondo as Felicia, Fergus, and Farkle, the children of Shrek and Fiona.

A story that has taken a long, long time

‘Shrek 5′ was originally announced in 2024, to the surprise of many, but its release has been delayed several times. The film was originally set to premiere in July 2026, but last August it was announced that the Universal and DreamWorks Animation film was moving its release date from December 23, 2026, to June 30, 2027. These changes were intended to avoid clashing with other major blockbusters—first by avoiding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Ice Age 6’, but now bringing it closer to ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’.
