Sadly, the teaser reminds us that the movie has been delayed a few months.

Shrek 5 gets a first look in a teaser revealing the main cast and the memes where the green ogre is the star

At first, it seemed like a dream, but Shrek is getting closer and closer to returning to theaters. The green ogre that marked a generation will arrive in 2026, but that does not prevent us from seeing something related to this character and... watch how his family has grown. Through a brief teaser, DreamWorks has given us this first look at Shrek 5, which serves two purposes: to know that people on the Internet are very “productive” when it comes to Shrek’s body, and to reveal that Zendaya joins the franchise’s stellar cast by lending her voice to Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.

While no details on the storyline have been released yet, it was previously announced that the original voice actors would return to this sequel, with Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Díaz as Princess Fiona.

It should also be recalled that last month, Universal Pictures delayed Shrek 5 by a few months to December 23, 2026, while putting Despicable 3 spin-off Minions 3 in its original slot. Its original release date was July 2026.

A very, very long wait

By the time ‘Shrek 5′ hits theaters, it will have been 16 years since the last green ogre movie, ‘Shrek Forever After’, which was released in May 2010. Rumors of a sequel date back to 2016, always with the intention of bringing back the original cast. While we haven’t seen any action from these characters, we did recently see the release of another spin-off with 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which was well-received by critics and has helped spur the return of the main franchise.
