Update:

The cast for Amazon’s highly anticipated Tomb Raider series continues to grow with high-profile talent. After reports circulated earlier this week regarding negotiations, Sigourney Weaver has officially confirmed that she will be joining the project.

The announcement came directly from the actress during the red carpet event for her upcoming film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, where she expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating with series creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “I am going to be in Tomb Raider,” the actress revealed to Deadline. “I’m very excited. The scripts are incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty, as we have come to expect from Ms Waller-Bridge.”

Weaver revealed that she will play a character named Wallace. While details on the character’s backstory remain under wraps, Weaver offered a teasing comment on the name, noting it is a “famous English name” that is “not always very popular.” Her confirmation solidifies a star-studded lineup that already includes Sophie Turner, who is set to don the iconic dual pistols as Lara Croft, and British actor Martin Bobb-Semple in a major, undisclosed role.

A big week for the franchise
