We have been unaware of the remake of Silent Hill 2 for a long time, and Konami has taken advantage of Sony’s State of Play to break their silence and show their face. Although it is a cult game and we live in the golden age of remakes (for example, Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Persona 3, or even Metroid Prime), the Bloober team has taken advantage of the event to delight us with a new trailer that denotes their desire to live up to and do well. Full of tongue-in-cheek and nostalgia, it shows an immense affection for the original work, but also comes with a luxurious facelift and several new features that will surely be put to the test by fans in the coming days. In any case, the best thing is undoubtedly the last news of the video, which confirms that Silent Hill 2 Remake is still in development, as no release date has been specified.

The detail of the remake that set off all the alarms

The good look of the game in this new trailer serves to calm the spirits a little after all the doubts and controversies that have been chasing Bloober Team and this revision of Silent Hill 2. The problems go back to the day when the studio’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, assured that they wanted to make more ambitious and complex games than the walking simulators they were known for (such as Layers of Fear or The Medium).

So far so good, no problem. Bloober wanted to compare themselves to Resident Evil and The Last of Us, nothing more. It sounded a bit strange to have a Silent Hill on your hands, but there was nothing wrong with that. What set off all the alarms were the following words:

“We still would like to make meaningful games, we still would like to keep our DNA to tell [stories] about things which are important to us. However, not by environmental storytelling, but by full action, to have much more mass appeal. And I think that this is the reason why we have chosen Silent Hill.”

Many fans of the saga collapsed and declared a state of alarm after these statements. Silent Hill 2 has always been considered a masterpiece of survival horror, and talking about “much more mass appeal” and putting more emphasis on “action” and combat did not sound very encouraging. Besides, there is no other game that tells so much through its atmosphere. Isn’t that the most characteristic of Konami’s titles?

While we all remember James, Maria, Pyramid Head, and other characters, what we remember are those fog-shrouded streets and all the details and stories that were hidden in them, in their apartment buildings, in the hospital, the prison, and other nightmarish corners. Will Bloober be able to find the balance and add the exact novelties to the original? Or will he go overboard with the changes and transformations? Whatever the case may be, fortunately, it seems that we will soon find out.
