Silent Hill 2 Remake includes these options to make the game look and play like old-school survival horror

The player will be able to disable all interface elements and there will be a filter that simulates the look and feel of the 90s games.

Years of silence and darkness. The future of Konami’s horror saga was shrouded in mist, but the Japanese company was secretly planning its return. The fog has lifted and Silent Hill 2 Remake is a reality. Developed by Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, the game respects the essence of the original while adding improvements on a playable and visual level. Aware of its status as a classic title, the developers also wanted to add options to enjoy it in a more traditional way, more in the style of the survival horror games of yesteryear.

The studio has announced that nostalgic players will be able to activate a filter to emulate the style of the old games, while also informing that it will be possible to disable all interface elements. “Looking for the most immersive way to play SILENT HILL 2?” they ask. “You’ll have an option to turn off all UI elements! We’ve also created a “90s filter” with grain effect, color correction, and screen adjustments to complete the old-school experience.”

The most immersive way to play Silent Hill 2 Remake

In another tweet, the Bloober team explained that the game itself will provide the tools for the character to progress. “Without UI, player guidance will naturally be directed by the game’s visuals, sound effects, and James’s behavior. He will glance towards important spots and have different animations and facial expressions during wounded states.

Creative Director Mateusz Lenart has confirmed that this will be the “most challenging” way to enjoy Silent Hill 2 Remake. “The expanded exploration space and third-person perspective offer nearly limitless possibilities for discovery.” The creative has stressed that he would choose these options for the second game because it is the most immersive way to immerse yourself in this nightmarish universe.

Silent Hill 2 Remake will be released on October 8th for PS5 and PC. Check out our first impressions here.
