Silent Hill f becomes more accessible with new casual mode

Konami adjusts combat, cuts enemy counts, and lets players skip major sections in New Game+.

Update:

Konami has released a new update for the survival-horror title, Silent Hill f, directly tackling two of the most discussed points since its launch: the challenging combat and the necessity of multiple playthroughs. The patch introduces a new Casual difficulty option for action, alongside several system tweaks designed to make the overall gameplay experience less punishing for a broader audience.

The new Casual action difficulty is positioned as an easier option than the existing Story mode. It becomes available when players start a new game, either from the main menu or a New Game+ save file. For those already struggling, the game will offer the option to switch to Casual after reaching the Game Over screen multiple times on the Story difficulty or higher.

Beyond the new difficulty setting, the update includes fundamental changes to improve the combat flow and reduce friction across all difficulty modes. Players will immediately benefit from faster stamina replenishment for Hinako, allowing for more recovery time during intense engagements. In some sections, enemies have also been reduced as well as the number of unskippable encounters.

The most impactful change for dedicated fans is the addition of an Optional Skip Feature for Select Sections of New Game+. Since Silent Hill f saves certain crucial story details for later playthroughs, players were often required to repeat lengthy sections. Now, upon completing a specific objective early in a New Game+ run—such as solving the mural puzzle and going through the subsequent door—players can choose to skip ahead. This will instantly move the player to a later point in the game, specifically when Hinako awakens at the corridor of the Dark Shrine for the second time

After many years of dormancy, Silent Hill is back with the level of horror we have come to expect. The recent title took us far from the usual settings, to a Japan of the past century, full of scares and changes that breathed new life into the title. In our review, we wrote that “Silent Hill f strikes a balance between the classic and the innovative. Its dense atmosphere, redesigned mechanics, fresh Japanese setting, and integration of new phobias make this installment an experience that is both familiar and disturbingly different, propelling it toward a future full of new terrors. The title not only revitalizes a franchise that seemed lost, but also proves that psychological horror still has much to offer if it dares to look to other cultures, aesthetics, and contemporary fears.”
