Sneak peek: Hagrid and Harry on set for the upcoming Harry Potter series
Actors Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost have been filming on the streets of London.
HBO’s new television adaptation of Harry Potter is already underway, and the first images from the set have quickly appeared. They show Dominic McLaughlin and Nick Frost dressed as Harry and Rubeus Hagrid walking through the busy streets of the British capital.
The two actors look true to their characters: McLaughlin wears Harry’s characteristic round glasses and casual attire, while Frost appears in the half giant’s unmistakable bulky coat, huge boots, and unkempt beard, accompanied by his iconic pink umbrella that hides the half-giant’s broken wand. The filming recreates modern-day London, with traffic and movement, even though the story is set in the 1990s.
On the way to the Leaky Cauldron
The scenes were filmed on Borough High Street, very close to London Bridge. The main actors, part of the technical team, and Nick Frost’s stunt double participated in the filming. One of the signs on the set revealed that the production was filming the scenes where Harry and Hagrid head to the Leaky Cauldron.
This scene corresponds to the beginning of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, when Harry discovers he is a wizard after receiving the letter from Hogwarts and is rescued from the Dursleys by Hagrid. From that moment on, they both travel to London to enter the Leaky Cauldron, the secret portal to Diagon Alley, where Harry acquires his first magical school equipment.
The series will transform each of the books into a season. According to information from Variety, filming of Season 1 is expected to last until spring 2026, with Season 2 beginning after a short break. With this, it was also confirmed that the series will be coming to HBO and HBO MAX in 2027.
