Sonic Superstars mixes the past and present of SEGA’s blue hedgehog in a new game
Sonic the Hedgehog is back with a new game, but this time it’s the old school blue blur hopping into a more modern style.
At the speed that characterizes him, Sonic, SEGA’s mascot, didn’t settle with Frontiers and is now back with a completely new delivery. During the Summer Game Fest gala, Geoff Keighley gave way to the announcement of Sonic Superstars, a 2D platformer game that promises to preserve the classic feeling of the original games at the controls. It is also reminiscent of the games of yesteryear due to its graphic aspect, although this time two different aspects are mixed: one similar to that of the 16-bit console era and another more softened, with two-dimensional graphics but in the style of the remastering of this type of titles.
Platforms, impossible jumps, enemies, and more await us in Sonic Superstars, which will be released this fall for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
A 2023 full of great games
2022 was expected to be the year of the video game, and although it ended with quality titles, delays prevented that number from increasing further. Many of these productions have been pushed back to 2023, to the point that we have only reached the middle of the year and there are already several GOTY candidates. Capcom is in a very good moment, their franchises work and the level of their products is of the highest quality. Resident Evil 4 Remake, which released in March, is a standout revamp, while Street Fighter 6 has reclaimed the king’s crown of the fighting genre.
If we talk about remakes, 2023 started with Dead Space, an updated version of the original that runs with stunning graphics and truly heart-stopping lighting. Despite the fact that Visceral Games no longer exists, the creators of Star Wars: Squadrons took over and developed the title, which in MeriStation we rated with a 9/10.
But when you talk about undoubted GOTY candidates, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom takes over the room. The Nintendo game has amazed audiences around the world and is being hailed as a masterpiece. Soon we will enjoy Final Fantasy XVI, but the role will not let up and in September we will have Starfield, the expected new intellectual property from Bethesda.
In an industry where leaks are so common, surprise hardly has room. However, Tango Gameworks left their own fans and strangers alike with their mouths open with Hi-Fi Rush, a fantastic title of action with musical rhythms that came directly on Xbox Game Pass in a surprise immediate release after its announcement.
