Sony’s Spider-Man Universe gets bigger with a ‘Sinister Six’ team comprised of Venom, Kraven, Morbius and more
The Sony Spider-Man Universe seems to be moving ahead with their ‘Sinister Six’ crossover movie, although the members of the team won’t be close to the comics.
Now that the strikes of Hollywood actors and screenwriters have come to an end, it is time to resume many of the projects that were left on hiatus. One of those that seemed to remain in an indefinite limbo was ‘Sinister Six’, the definitive film of the Sony Pictures Universe of Spider-Man Characters (to which we’ll refer to as their ‘Spiderverse’ for simplicity’s sake) which would bring together six of the deadliest villains Spider-Man has ever faced. According to the latest information, everything seems to indicate that it is still underway.
The project came to light after the release of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ in 2014, although its future would later be called into question. However, according to insider Daniel Richtman, who has consistently been right about his Marvel inquiries, Sony has put the film back into the production pipeline. To give us an idea of how forgotten this film was until now, the initial forecasts were that it would be released in 2014, the same year when Marvel Studios released ‘Captain America: the First Avenger’.
Who are the Sinister Six?
The Sinister Six are a group of supervillains from the Spider-Man pantheon that has never really had permanent members, although the most frequent are some of the most popular ones such as Dr. Octopus, Venom, Vulture, Electro, Kraven and Sandman. As we know, Sony is determined to create its own “Spiderverse” separate from the MCU with several spin-offs starring some of them, having already seen films like ‘Venom’, ‘Venom: Let there be Carnage’, and ‘Morbius’. These two would be part of the Sinister Six, although for what reason we still don’t know.
But we also have to take a look at the future, and one of the films that looks the best among those that are about to be part of this universe is ‘Kraven the Hunter’, with an Aaron Taylor Johnson unleashed in a first trailer that surprised fans for his apparent new origin story. Also, recently, we saw the first preview of ‘Madame Web’, with an Ezekiel which would surely be part of this film version of the Sinister Six.
