‘Spec Ops: The Line’ gets delisted off Steam, sparking rumors of a remake or remaster
The cult classic game by Yager Development, ‘Spec Ops: The Line’, suddenly disappeared from the Steam store, but it’s still available on the Microsoft Store.
2K Games has removed Spec Ops: The Line from Steam. The Take-Two Interactive company has not explained the reasons or made any communication in this regard, but the cult title can no longer be purchased on the Valve platform: “Spec Ops: The Line is no longer available on the Steam store”, reads the warning on the official game page. On the other hand, on GOG it is on sale for only $5.99. Additionally, a visit to the Microsoft Store confirms that the title can still be purchased at that storefront, at a price of $29.99 . This is the original Xbox 360 version, which works thanks to backward compatibility on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
What does the game disappearing from Steam mean? There is not much to say at the moment, beyond speculation about a possible remake or remaster.
The director is interested in a remaster
In an interview published in 2022 by GamingBible, creative director Cory Davis expressed his desire to release a remaster in the future: “There were, on the business side, things that I wasn’t involved with that ended up with Yager and 2K not wanting to work together after the project, and there were conversations about additional campaigns. There were conversations about full sequels. Now more recently, there’s been conversations about remastering as well. It’s something that I’m starting to tell people, so I don’t really care, but I’ll definitely be diving back into that universe in the future.”
The creative not only showed his desire for the remastering to materialize but also assured that there were people at 2K who were also interested. However, at least at that time there was a dispute between the studio and the publisher over ownership of the IP.
Spec Ops The Line was released in 2012 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
