The 2002 Spider-Man movie returns to the big screen in the U.S. with big profits; will its director return to Marvel?

Re-releases of iconic films are on the agenda, and Marvel and Sony know it. This week, a superhero myth returns to the big screen in select U.S. theaters in the form of 2002′s ‘Spider-Man,’ directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Quite an event that is achieving a box office more than outstanding and that coincides with the latest rumors about the return of Sam Raimi himself to Marvel to direct ‘Spider-Man 4′. But not the fourth part of his trilogy, but the new MCU Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland.

2002′s ‘Spider-Man’ sweeps the box office in mid-2024

Last Monday alone, Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ starring Tobey Maguire grossed just over $681,000, making it the second highest grossing film behind ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ and its $985,000, and that was only in 466 theaters nationwide. This data proves that ‘Spider-Mania’ is still in great shape, which would give wings to a great acceptance of Raimi in a possible return to the Marvel and Sony franchise.

And that is that the latest rumors point to a possible return of the director of ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ to the popular arachnid franchise. And far from dealing with a possible ‘Spider-Man 4′ again with Tobey Maguire, he would be in charge of the fourth part of the current saga starring Tom Holland as part of the MCU after the promising end of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and his Peter Parker closer to his classic version of the comics, more mature and darker, leaving behind the teenage tone of those seen so far at the hands of Jon Watts.

In that sense, Sam Raimi would now be the favorite of Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios to helm at least the next ‘Spider-Man 4′ after the best-positioned director to date to replace Watts: Drew Goddard. And this director seems to have a busy schedule with the recently announced ‘Matrix 5′. Will we see the return of Sam Raimi to the Marvel Spider-Man universe? Many hope so, of course.
