‘Splitgate 2' returns with its frantic portal shooter in 2025
The game known as “Halo with portals” returns with a sequel looking to repeat the download success of its first installment.
One of the biggest hits of 2021 will have a sequel. 1047 Games has revealed the first trailer for ‘Splitgate 2′, an improved version of the free-to-play multiplayer shooter that combines first-person shooting with portal mechanics.
‘Splitgate 2′ will maintain much of what its original version presented: a shooter with portals in frantic 4v4 battles, free to play with only cosmetic microtransactions. This sequel adds the arrival of three factions that combine different play styles and equipment, although the studio will not give many details about them for now.
In addition to the trailer, the company also announced the launch of a companion app for the game, which is now available for download on iOS and Android. The app includes a comic book that introduces you to the game’s universe and story, as well as the ability to acquire collectibles that can be used to earn in-game rewards.
For now, ‘Splitgate 2′ is scheduled to launch in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC, on Steam and Epic Store.
Splitgate, a success story
When Splitgate launched in 2021, the studio hoped for moderate success that would grow over time. However, the independent studio ended up with 10 million downloads in less than 30 days and nearly 2 million daily players.
The title received updates until September 2022, when 1047 Games stopped development to focus on the sequel. For now, the original title remains a free-to-play game available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
