Update:

The start of the year can feel tough with all the bills to pay after the holidays. To make matters worse, what had been a rumor has now become reality: starting this year, Spotify is raising its prices again in the United States, marking the third price increase in four years.

What will be the new price of Spotify in the United States in 2026?

Starting in February, the Individual Premium plan will move from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. Those sharing accounts will also feel the impact; the Duo plan is jumping from $16.99 to $18.99, while the Family plan will now cost $21.99, up from $19.99. Even students, who traditionally enjoy the most aggressive discounts, will see their monthly bill increase from $5.99 to $6.99.

Users in the United States will receive an email throughout the month with details about these prices. “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists,” the company said in announcing the price hikes this Thursday.

The last time Spotify raised its prices was in June 2024, increasing from $10.99 to $11.99. Prior to this, there was an increase in June 2023, which was the first increase since the platform’s launch in the United States in 2011, with an original cost of $9.99 per month for the individual plan.

The decision to raise prices isn’t happening in a vacuum. Major record labels have been vocal in urging Spotify and other music streaming platforms to adjust their fees. Their argument is straightforward: subscription costs have not kept pace with global inflation. Furthermore, when compared to video streaming giants like Netflix, music streaming remains comparatively inexpensive. By adjusting the price, Spotify aims to align itself better with the broader market and ensure that the ecosystem remains healthy for creators and rights holders.
