Square Enix reveals how long Final Fantasy VII Rebirth really will be

The highly-awaited second part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, Rebirth, showed off a new gameplay trailer during State of Play, and the devs have shared more details.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

They left Midgar behind to continue fighting Shinra. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth continues the Remake’s story and takes the player to the outside world, where they will have to assume even greater responsibilites. Square Enix is preparing a sequel much larger than the original, promising hours and hours of content. This was confirmed by director Naoki Haguchi in a statement published on social networks, just minutes after the Japanese company showed a spectacular trailer during PlayStation’s latest State of Play.

According to the director of the game, which will allow us to control characters like Cloud, Tifa, Aeris, Barret, Red XIII, and more, there will be almost 100 hours of content available. That doesn’t mean that the main story lasts that long, but that most completionists will be able to squeeze it out until they reach that approximate figure.

A more ambitious game than Final Fantasy VII Remake

“We are finally able to announce the release date to all of you!” said the director in his message. “We have been working tirelessly on FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH since the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, and we can’t wait for you to experience our labor of love. In this title, Cloud and his friends, who have fled Midgar, will be setting out on an adventure across an expansive world of untold adventure in pursuit of Sephirot.”

“While the main storyline is bigger and more ambitious than the previous game’s narrative, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH also embraces the concept of ‘free exploration’, with compelling stories, fun mini-games, powerful monsters and so much more to find throughout the world map. We hope you will explore this world in great detail, as nearly 100 hours of adventure awaits.”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game in a trilogy that reimagines the original 1997 title. The new installment will be available exclusively for PS5 starting February 29, 2024.
