‘Squid Game’ is getting an American remake with a pretty big name as the director
One of Netflix’s biggest hits of the past few years is about to get a remake already, by the hand of a legendary American director.
One of the most successful series in the history of Netflix is ‘Squid Game’. the Korean production appeared out of nowhere and became an unstoppable global phenomenon that will premiere its long-awaited second season on December 26. Now, according to a report by Deadline, it appears that an American-made remake of the show is already in development with none other than David Fincher as director.
Fincher is one of the biggest directors of recent decades with films like ‘Seven’, ‘Fight Club’, ‘Zodiac’ and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ behind him. A cinematographic career full of successes and great titles that makes us confident in a remake that would expand the universe of ‘Squid Game’ showing all its possibilities with an international version of the deadly game.
‘Squid Game’ and all its possibilities
Released in 2021, the series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk was an instant success and demonstrated the enormous potential of what it proposed by adapting perfectly to the video game industry thanks to the enormous number of series that were made on different streaming platforms using other games as a base. In addition, official reality shows and others based on the idea once again confirmed the great possibilities and how this idea adapted to all types of formats.
In the absence of details about this American remake, it is a way to bring the series closer to an audience that has not enjoyed the original series. It remains to be seen if it is a fully-fledged remake or simply a new approach and a demonstration that ‘Squid Game’ goes far beyond South Korea.
