‘Squid Game’, Season 2 has a premiere date on Netflix and promises another season

It’s time to clear your calendars, because Netflix has announced that one of its most important series, and one that really broke into pop culture, Squid Game, will be returning with a Season 2 that will be released later this year.

Through social media, Netflix released a teaser to make the announcement. Although it looks like an Olympic race, it gradually turns into one of the most shocking games of the first season. The teaser reveals that Season 2 of the series, directed and written by Hwang Dong-hyuk, will be released on December 26. It was also revealed that a third and final season will be released in 2025.

Along with the announcement, Hwang shared a short letter about what returning to the Squid Game world means to him and what lies ahead. I am thirlled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.”

The first season premiered in September 2021, leaving us on a 3-year cliffhanger. Along with this announcement, Netflix also revealed the synopsis of what the series has in store for us later this year: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport,” reads the official Season 2 synopsis. “Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
