Stallone didn´t want to end the ‘Rocky’ franchise with ‘something so bad and so off-key’ as Rocky V

Silvester Stallone knows that Rocky V was a really bad movie, and confessed that it’s the reason why he decided to come back years later with a final film for the series.

Although ‘Rocky’ is a franchise with millions of fans around the world, and probably the best in the sports genre, it has also had certainly weak deliveries, as is the case of ‘Rocky V’. In an interview a few years ago, on the occasion of the premiere of ‘Rocky Balboa’, which would be the sixth film, Sylvester Stallone rated each of the five films, giving it a straight 0, which in fact already has a 5.8 on IMDb, and for which the presence of a professional boxer like Tommy Morrison did not help to improve its rating.

Stallone qualifies the entire ‘Rocky’ saga

“The first one is a 10, it’s an incredible movie”, something with which the interviewer agrees, being a film that won three Oscars with a script written in three days by the actor himself, and that was carried out with a ridiculous budget. “I would say that ‘Rocky II’ is a 7′5″, to which the interviewer responds, “I think you are being generous,” to the laughter of the audience and Stallone.

“I like 3, I have to go up to 9. ‘Rocky IV’ is the most difficult of all, Dolph Lundgren was the one who hit harder. It has a good montage, I give it a 7.5″, he continues, before reaching what is surely the lowest point of the saga. “‘Rocky V’ is a 0. It was bad, it’s a 0. I definitely wasn’t there. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to do the last one, I couldn’t end up doing something so bad, so off-key.”.

To finish, Stallone displays a sense of humor, ensuring that ‘Rocky Balboa’ would be the last, something that, as we knew, had to be taken with a grain of salt, since the character continued, even if he did not get back into the ring. “I’m not going to do another one, what am I going to do? I’m not going to fight arthritis”, he sayd, amid widespread laughter.
