Star Fox is about to land on the Nintendo Switch 2 and will do sooner than expected
Without warning, Nintendo presents a new entry in the Star Fox series.

Without any prior announcement, Nintendo held a surprise Nintendo Direct entirely focused on the reveal of Star Fox, a new entry in the long-running franchise that is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 much sooner than expected.
Everything announced during the Star Fox Direct
The Direct showcased extended gameplay footage that stays true to the franchise’s classic formula, being a remake of the classic Star Fox 64. Players will once again pilot the iconic Arwing, alongside the return of familiar vehicles such as the Landmaster tank and the Blue-Marine submarine. The presentation also confirmed the return of the core Star Fox team and several well-known locations, including Corneria and Fichina, as well as space regions like Meteo and Sector Y.
One of the defining features of the series—branching paths—will remain intact. Mission outcomes will once again depend on player decisions, enemies defeated, and specific objectives completed during each stage. The campaign will also introduce new difficulty options, with some changes life shield gauge, among other details.

Narrative depth is set to expand as well, with new cutscenes designed to flesh out the Star Fox universe and provide more context to its characters and conflicts.
Quality-of-life improvements and new modes
Rather than positioning itself as a simple remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, the new Star Fox introduces new mechanics to deepen replayability. A dedicated Challenge Mode will feature optional mini-missions within each level, available on both Normal and Expert difficulties. These challenges add extra objectives beyond the main mission goals, encouraging mastery of each stage.
Multiplayer is also making a strong return. This time, the game will include a 4v4 team-based multiplayer mode featuring multiple arenas, each with its own set of objectives. Up to four players will be able to play locally using GameShare.

Control options have also been expanded to take advantage of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Players will be able to use a Joy-Con as a mouse, enabling cooperative play where one player pilots the Arwing while another handles weapons. Additionally, those who own a Nintendo 64 controller will be able to use it for an experience that closely mirrors the original 1997 release.
