Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic won’t be released until at least 2030: “Maybe it’ll be a PlayStation 7 game”

Journalist Jason Schreier reports that the studio led by Casey Hudson was created last year, so it will be many years before the game is finished.

The 2025 Game Awards left us with quite a few big announcements and a few surprises that left thousands of viewers speechless. Perhaps the best example of the latter was the reaction to the presentation of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that will be directed by Casey Hudson himself, director of KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy.

However, it seems that we will have to wait a long time to enjoy this promising single-player adventure. A few minutes ago, renowned journalist Jason Schreier commented on social media that, according to Lucasfilm, Arcanaut Studios was founded last year. This means that Hudson and his team have only been working on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic for a few months, which implies that the game will not be released for several years. “2030 is an ‘optimistic’ guess. Maybe it’ll be a PlayStation 7 game,” Schreier said ironically.

Although Schreier’s information may be a shock to users, most Star Wars fans agree that they will wait as long as it takes for Hudson to create a title that lives up to KOTOR. In Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, players will embark on a narrative-driven adventure that will take them to the High Republic, one of the most beloved periods in the universe created by George Lucas.

This game has been confirmed for release on PC and consoles, but considering that development has only just begun, it will most likely end up coming out on PlayStation 6 or even 7, as well as on future Xbox systems. These days, AAA developments take a long time and can easily be delayed, so the wait will be a long one.
