‘Star Wars’: Obi-Wan Kenobi contradicted himself with his secret romance
The then Jedi Padawan ruled out the type of person he eventually fell in love with.
Like all members of the Jedi Order in ‘Star Wars’, Obi-Wan Kenobi was recruited when he was just a boy. There he trained as an initiate, passed the trials and became a Padawan of Master Qui-Gon Jinn. During his time as an apprentice, the young man had many doubts and insecurities, which led him on a solo adventure. Later, on another official mission, he fell in love with Duchess Satine Kryze, leader of Mandalore... just the type of person he had previously completely dismissed.
In the novel ‘Padawan’, written by Kiersten White, a teenager Obi-Wan Kenobi travels alone to a mysterious planet. There he meets a group of surviving children, who struggle every day against the dangers of nature. In one of the dialogues, Kenobi comes clean and explains what kind of person he would not like to be with.
Mandalore’s leader is the opposite of what he wanted
Duchess Satine was a politician and an aristocrat; she ruled Mandalore with all that entailed. “I would never want to be in a relationship with a leader,” Obi-Wan said before meeting the duchess. “Too close to politicians or royalty. I’m sure if I ever fell in love, it would be with someone calm. Peaceful. Easy to get along with.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s tragedy is that he had to choose between his love for Satine and his duty to the Jedi Order. In the end, the two broke off their relationship, although they were later reunited in the Clone Wars. In the end, Kenobi confessed to her that he would have abandoned the Jedi Order for her.
