‘Star Wars’ Seeking Galactic Signing: Sigourney Weaver in Talks to Join ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Movie
The ‘Alien’ star is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Jon Favreau-directed film.
The ‘Star Wars’ franchise continues to expand with new productions in both film and television. And among the most anticipated projects is ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, a film directed by Jon Favreau that promises to be a turning point in the so-called ‘Mandoverse’. However, this movie may have an ace up its sleeve, as the famous actress Sigourney Weaver, star of the ‘Alien’ franchise, is in advanced talks to join the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A sci-fi icon on her way to ‘Star Wars’
It is currently unknown what role Sigourney Weaver will be playing, but it is expected to be a prominent one, as signing a star of this caliber is not usually for a simple cameo. Filming on ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is expected to begin in late 2024 with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, two prominent figures in the present of the Lucasfilm franchise, as producers; Weaver would join Pedro Pascal in his usual role of Din Djarin, although the Chilean actor is not under the Mandalorian’s helmet in many of his scenes.
‘The Mandalorian’ started in 2019 with its first season on Disney+, one of the big surprises of ‘Star Wars’ in live action in recent years and a franchise that is developing its own universe, with new spin-off series such as ‘Ahsoka’ - whose second season is already underway - or the upcoming ‘The Skeleton Crew’. It is expected that all these stories will converge in the movie ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ to further develop and expand the so-called ‘Mandoverse’. Of course, we still have to wait to enjoy this movie, as filming is scheduled to begin later this year, with a theatrical release sometime in 2026.
