Star Wars: The Acolyte release date and first poster revealed, trailer coming tomorrow

We finally have a release date for the next Star Wars series on Disney+, revealed alongside the show’s first poster and a promise of a trailer coming very soon.

Announced on the official Star Wars site, we now know that The Acolyte will make its debut on Disney’s streaming service on June 4, 2024. The series stars Lee Jung-jae, Amanda Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

While we are still to see any of the show’s stars in costume, we now have an official synopsis for the show, which you can find below. But alongside the first poster right below this lines, you can already get a feel for the kind of mood the production is going for, and it’s something unlike anything we’re used to seeing from Star Wars.

A different kind of Star Wars

The official synopsis for the show reads: “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.” We’ve known since its announcement that the show is set during the High Republic era of Star Wars, which takes place before the events shown in the main movies of the Skywalker Saga. At the peak of Jedi domination over the galaxy as its defenders, the outer rims of civilization are constantly threatened by unknown evils, but so far this has only been explored in novels and comics.

Leslye Headland created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef also executive produce, with Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana serving as co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producers on the series
