Star Wars: The Acolyte: These are the 4 Jedi the mysterious Sith wants to kill

The pasts of Masters Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin tie into the Jedi assassinations taking place in the new Disney+ series.

Star Wars The Acolyte

Tragedy separated sisters Osha and Mae Aniseya, and tragedy brought them back together. ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ the new Disney+ series, begins with the murder of a Jedi. Master Indara is surprised in the cantina on the planet Ueda when a mysterious cloaked woman challenges her to a duel. Beneath the cloak is a familiar face, that of one of the twins everyone thought was dead. Mae survived and was captured by a mysterious Sith who became her master. He orders her to assassinate the four Jedi from her past who came to her home planet and triggered the events of the present.

Master Indara

Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) is a human who has mastered various forms of combat and uses the Force to protect herself and others. More than fifteen years ago, she and three other companions traveled to Brendok, the home planet of the twins. For reasons that have yet to be explained, Osha and Mae’s home caught fire and the Jedi had to rescue little Osha. Unfortunately, neither Indara nor any of the others could do anything to protect Mae, who supposedly died in the fire.

In the fight against Mae, Indara proves to be far superior, but the acolyte knows how to take advantage of her opponent’s weaknesses. She throws one of her knives at an innocent citizen, and the Jedi uses the Force to stop the weapon and prevent bloodshed. However, this momentary lapse in concentration prevents her from stopping the second knife, which plunges into her body. Indara collapses and dies seconds later.

Master Torbin

The events on Brendok scarred Torbin for life. Feeling guilty, the human Master took the vow of Barash, a penance in which the Jedi remain oblivious to everything around them, floating slightly in a meditative position. The acolyte’s second target is on the planet Olega, protected by the walls of the local Jedi Temple. The assassin manages to sneak inside and tries to kill Torbin, but an invisible and impassable barrier surrounds him, preventing her from even touching him.

Once again, Mae uses her ability to find and exploit people’s weaknesses. Torbin awakens and apologizes for what happened to Brendok, just before accepting his fate: the Jedi takes the poison the acolyte carries in a flask and drinks it willingly, causing his death. The guilt eats away at him, destroying his insides, and he decides to commit suicide.

Master Kelnacca

During the time of the High Republic, there were several Jedi of the Wookiee race. Burryaga Agaburry is one of the most popular characters in the novels and comics, but ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ introduces a new master of this species. The first two episodes provide little information about Master Kelnacca, other than he was not one of the Jedi stationed on Brendok and was, therefore, a participant in the disaster there. Sixteen years later, the Jedi discover that Master Wookiee lives in isolation on Khofar, a dangerously forested planet similar to Kashyyyk, the Wookiee homeworld.

After killing Indara and Torbin, the acolyte’s next target is Kelnacca. The question that arises is how she can defeat a Wookiee without weapons, a dilemma that may be resolved in future episodes.

Master Sol

Another human Jedi stationed on Brendok. He was the Master who saved Osha from burning and who advocated for her to be trained in the ways of the Force. Despite her age, the Jedi Council agreed to accept her as a Padawan, though several years later the apprentice decided to leave the Jedi Order of her own free will. Wise, thoughtful, skilled in battle and powerful in the Force, Master Sol teaches the younger generation at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. However, the murders of his companions force him to begin an investigation that leads him to explore the actions of his past.

At first, all clues point to Indara’s killer being her former Padawan, but he soon discovers that Mae survived the fire and is the one behind the deaths. The biggest mystery, however, is the identity of her master, a plot that will unfold throughout the series.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte are now available on Disney+. The eight-episode series is set in the final phase of the High Republic, about 100 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire. Although reviews have been quite positive, the production has been the victim of a blistering review bombing that has sunk the grade on the usual aggregators.
