Stardew Valley fans get first tease of update 1.7 from ConcernedApe
The developer suggests a new farm type and more character-focused content are on the way.

Just as players were settling into the massive amount of content provided by the 1.6 update, Eric Barone—the solo developer known as ConcernedApe—has officially reignited the hype train. On December 17, 2025, Barone took to social media to provide the first hints regarding Stardew Valley Update 1.7, although it remains vague.
Responding to a fan’s request for a sneak peek on X (previously Twitter), Barone shared that while he wants to keep most details a secret for now, it has become “traditional to add a new farm type” with major milestones.
there will be some more character/social stuff, it's also traditional to add a new farm type. Lots more but I don't want to reveal much yet

This would mark the ninth official farm layout available to players. While the current maps cater to everything from fishing and mining to the recently added Meadowlands Farm, fans are already speculating if a new social-focused map might be on the horizon to complement the other big teaser: “more character/social stuff.”
Strengthening bonds in Pelican Town
The promise of more “social stuff” is particularly exciting for the community. For many players, the heart of Stardew Valley lies in its residents and the relationships formed over years of in-game seasons. Although it remains vague, this could hit one of the game’s most requested content, where new NPCs, activities, dialogues could help expand Pelican Town lore after so many years.

While a release date remains unconfirmed, Barone has previously mentioned that he is balancing these updates with the development of his next game, Haunted Chocolatier. He also recently teased a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game, which will include native 4K support and expanded multiplayer options. For now, the developer is focusing on quality over speed, ensuring that when 1.7 finally arrives, it will be another transformative experience for veterans and new farmers alike.
