State of Decay 3 gets a new trailer, promises to be the ultimate zombie survival experience

After many years of silence, Undead Labs finally shares a new look at State of Decay 3 during the Xbox Games Showcase

State of Decay 3

State of Decay 3 is one of the best examples of the damage that presenting something too soon can do. If one looks at the time that passed between the first game in the series and State of Decay 2 (2018), there is an obvious revelation: development took five years, the same amount of years that have passed for this third installment. However, as it was announced in 2020, the general feeling is that the game is late and keeps getting delayed.

Fortunately, State of Decay 3 was present during the Xbox Games Showcase of summer 2024, with a trailer that reveals just a little bit more of what we can expect from State of Decay 3. While not explicitly gameplay, the trailer seems to be fully in-engine, showing off the graphical upgrade of the series when compared with the previous title, although with a heavy focus on story and narrative.

With the trailer, we also get a renewed synopsis for the game: Set years after a zombie apocalypse nearly wiped out humankind, State of Decay 3 is the next evolution in the State of Decay franchise. As the zombie threat continues to claim lives, you must fight back and reclaim lost ground, carving out a life for your community of survivalist homesteaders.

Everything seem to point to Undead Labs working on making the absolute best version of their concept so far. Considering that the studio is one of the smallest ones in the Xbox family, one can not overlook the fact that they’ve been working on this game through the pandemic, all while also delivering fresh new content with some big patches for State of Decay 2.
