Shift Up
‘Stellar Blade’ gets an Adults Only rating due to nudity and explicit gore
A Korean storefront has confirmed that ‘Stellar Blade’ is getting an Adults Only rating due to very suggestive images, nudity, and lots of violence.
We do not know if certain controversy that has formed around Stellar Blade and its protagonist will become problematic, but it certainly has all the ingredients. It has been confirmed that in South Korea, the country where the studio in charge is from, the game will be rated asOAdults only due to explicit violence and nudity, something that surely will not surprise anyone that has seen even a minute of the game.
Its violent content is not really a surprise either, taking into account the size of Eve’s sword, the game’s protagonist, and how she dismembers her enemies in what we have seen so far. As for nudity, it’s not been very explicit in trailers so far, but there are undoubtedly provocative outfits, in addition to the explosive design of Eve, in turn based on a Korean model named Shin Jae-Eun. This doesn’t mean that Stellar Blade is also rated R in the West, but it’s quite likely due to the nature of Shift Up’s game.
Its creator does not shy away from controversy
The game’s director, Hyung-Tae Kim, has also not done his part to calm a minority that accuses the Korean studio of overly sexualizing Eve. A part of the public has shown their displeasure at the special emphasis that Shift Up has placed, evidently, on realizing and showing off the protagonist’s butt. Kim has given some explanations, which many have online have found to be inadequate .
“When we talk about design, we pay special attention to the back of the character because it is what the player will see the most” Kim said. “It is the part of the character’s body that we see the most while playing so it is very important.”
Stellar Blade arrives on April 26 on PlayStation 5.
