Stephen Amell, star of 'Arrow,' sues James Gunn and 'Peacemaker' over joke

The actor, who helped launch the Arrowverse, believes he was “treated like shit” by DC Studios and is sending a strong message to those responsible.

Peacemaker’, the DC series starring John Cena that sits halfway between the now-defunct DCEU and James Gunn’s upcoming DCU - itself a spin-off of ‘Suicide Squad’ by the same director - can afford to make all kinds of jokes and references about the superhero universe it belongs to; and so it did in its first season. So much so that they even alluded to The CW, the universe of television series that began with Stephen Amell’s ‘Arrow’, the target of one of the many sarcasms of the ‘Peacemaker’; and its leading actor was not amused.

Stephen Amell: “F*ck those guys”

That’s what the Canadian actor - who also appeared on WWE Raw in 2015 - declared in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, where he reflected on his career as an actor and his fleeting stint on the wrestling show, and made sure he didn’t like the “Peacemaker” joke about The CW’s Arrowverse at all: “That was a little unnecessary. I didn’t f***ing appreciate that at all. Okay. I am just going to come right out and say this... our show was kind of treated like s**t,” the actor assures of DC’s treatment of the Arrowverse.

“I get it, we’re on The CW, I get it, it’s TV. But I also get the fact that when people think about the most recent iteration of DC, they don’t think about the Snyder Cut - they think about the Arrowverse. We got c*****d on for years, and years, and years, and this just seemed excessive. I’m not actually mad, but I just remember hearing that and just being like, ‘F*** those guys,’’” the actor concludes.

What was the famous joke about Arrow?

Recall that in the last episode of the first season of ‘Peacemaker’, John Cena makes a direct reference to ‘Arrow’. And it is that at the moment when they are planning how to get to the famous “cow” of alien butterflies, the Peacemaker claims that he is able to shoot an arrow from a tree with a cable that makes his helmet slide like a zip line, to which the Vigilante replies, “Like Green Arrow?” The Peacemaker immediately replies, “That dude goes to Brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight Sparkle with a four-inch-wide butthole drilled in the costume.”
