Stranger Things 5: Matt Duffer confirms Linda Hamilton’s role and Eddie Munson’s fate
Dr. Kay will bring “intelligence and intimidation” to the last chapter of Stranger Things.
For several months now, we have known that one of the most important actresses in science fiction cinema would be joining Stranger Things. Linda Hamilton, best remembered for her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator, will play a key role in the final season of the Netflix series, but until now, details about her character had been kept to a minimum.
During an interview with Empire, Matt Duffer, one of the series’ co-creators, spoke about the character of Dr. Kay, played by Hamilton, who will be a government agent searching for Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven. Duffer confirmed that Dr. Kay will not be confined to a laboratory. “She’s a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun,” Duffer added, assuring fans that Hamilton’s proven on-screen combat prowess will be leveraged. “She’s hyper-intelligent and intimidating.”

In addition, this interview finally revealed the fate of one of season 4’s favorite characters, Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn. Despite the rumors and the actor himself giving false clues, Munson will not be returning. “I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead,” says Matt Duffer. “Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.”
