Stranger Things finale is cursed and will be “basically, eight movies”

Maya Hawke, Robin’s actress, explains why Season 5 is taking so long and fast-forwarding chapters to be seen in theaters.

Let the last two episodes of the fourth season and the words of Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley in ‘Stranger Things’) serve as a warning. If those lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes in the eighth and 2 and a half hours in the ninth, get ready because the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman warns that the end of the series will be “basically, eight movies.”

“The show has been a little bit cursed. The pandemic happened right as we were starting Season 4, the strike happened right as we were starting this season, (preventing us from shooting both as planned),” Maya Hawke explained in an interview, justifying the criticism by saying that the children are already adults and have rights in the first images of the finale.

“And our showrunners, Matt and Ross, are really—take a lot of responsibility. They have an amazing team of writers, but they’re very involved. And they write a lot and they’re very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and so it takes a long time to write each season, and it takes a long time to shoot them. We’re making, basically, eight movies. The episodes are very long.

Will there be a resurrection in ‘Stranger Things’?

One of the lingering questions we’re most anxious to see answered in the final season of Stranger Things is the fate of Eddie Munson, a character who (spoiler alert) died in the final episodes of the previous season, but whose possible return has been heavily teased. Despite being one of the last to arrive, Joseph Quinn (now best known for the new ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ and for being the next Human Torch) fell in love with the audience within a few chapters and people have been anticipating his return. But there will be mysteries to unravel...
