Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are back with a remastered version for Switch that will arrive much sooner than you think
Both Super Mario Galaxy games are back with a remastered version for Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Direct on September 12 brought big news for Mario fans. Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch with a complete remaster. It will be available on the console on October 2. We emphasize Nintendo Switch: there will be no dedicated version for its sequel, so you will have to play it via backward compatibility.

You can purchase them as a physical bundle that includes both games. In digital format, they can be purchased separately for $40 each, or as a bundle for $70.

- The Twisty Trials Galaxy, that constantly rotating moving log in a world full of screens, is a tribute to Super Mario Sunshine. It’s the same level as the secret level found in Port Espresso.
- Nintendo removed the tutorials during the adventure because they thought that everyone who played would be familiar with the controls after playing the first game. You can’t understand Galaxy 2 without Galaxy 1.
- During the credits, if you pick up one of the bee power-ups and leave the map, a sign will appear saying that you have died. Yes, you can fail even during the credits screen.
- If you deposit 9999 star pieces in Toad’s bank, you will unlock ‘The Perfect Run’ level, the most difficult level in the entire game.
- The Secret Cookie Galaxy features the same cakes that can be seen in Yoshi’s Cookie, a puzzle game for SNES where Yoshi is the absolute protagonist.
- The Chilling Flames Galaxy features creepy humanoid silhouettes staring at Mario from afar. They are a reference to monsters from Japanese folklore called ‘kodama’, who live in trees and have a similar silhouette.
- The Astros Iris Galaxy is a reference to the ‘Rainbow Road’ circuit from the Mario Kart franchise. There are even rails that mimic the track layout.
- After collecting 9999 star pieces, coconuts turn into watermelons.
- If you collect all 242 stars and defeat Bowser, you unlock Estela’s avatar as an image for your saved game in the main menu.
- When skating, pressing the Z button on the Wiimote allows you to skate backwards and perform pirouettes.
- Toad’s appearance on the Toad bench changes as you invest star pieces. The latest version directly alludes to the legendary Captain Toad, who a few years later would have his own game thanks to the success of his levels in Super Mario 3D World.
- There are numerous references to Super Mario World. For example, the melody in Puzzle Plank Galaxy is the same as the one found in the bonus levels of the aforementioned game.
- When you collect 9,999 coins, Luigi ghosts appear in all galaxies and take you through the collectibles on an optimized route to get 100%.
- In Starshine Beach Galaxy, you can see many references to Delfino Island, the starting level of Super Mario Sunshine.
- There is a tribute to Super Mario 64 in Throwback Galaxy, which is exactly the same as the Stone Fortress from the 1996 game.
