Superman, faster than a speeding bullet, lands on HBO Max sooner than expected
The record-breaking film brings an immersive DCU experience straight to fans at home.

After a successful run in theaters this summer, James Gunn and David Corenswet’s Superman is officially set to make its streaming debut this Friday, September 19, on HBO Max, just 70 days after its theatrical debut This swift transition from the big screen to home viewing is perfectly timed to coincide with the ongoing second season of Peacemaker, which directly follows the events of the movie. The news was confirmed by Warner Bros. in a press release and playfully hinted at by Corenswet and Gunn on social media, although, should this be considered a spoiler?

A unique viewing experience
The film, which has been a major success, broke box office records as the biggest opener for a Superman movie ever and was also the fastest film to join the Two Million Watched Club on Letterboxd. Its critical and commercial performance has established a solid foundation for the new DCU, with director James Gunn already having confirmed a follow-up film.
To celebrate the arrival of the Man of Steel, HBO Max is introducing a special, interactive interface for subscribers. The platform’s homepage will receive a full DCU takeover, designed to immerse fans in Superman’s world. Users can expect to see Daily Planet-inspired homepage art and a “Fortress of Solitude” hub that curates related content. A particularly interesting feature is the inclusion of hidden portals that will transport users into Lex Luthor’s Pocket Dimension, offering personalized title recommendations.
The future of the DC Universe
Looking ahead, a standalone sequel titled Man of Tomorrow is already in the works, with filming expected to start next year and a theatrical release scheduled for July 9, 2027. This next installment will see Corenswet’s Superman teaming up with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor against a new, larger threat. For now, fans can enjoy the movie from the comfort of their homes and dive deep into the new DCU, all starting this Friday.
