Switch price increases in the United States and Nintendo sends a warning for the future: “price adjustments may be necessary in the future”

Nintendo makes it clear that price changes for its current products, such as Nintendo Switch 2, are subject to price increases.

Nintendo Switch sube precio Estados Unidos

Nintendo has made a drastic decision in the United States. The Nintendo Switch is increasing in price due to “market conditions.” Starting August 3, all models of the original console will be affected, from the basic model to the Lite and OLED, as well as some accessories and amiibo figures.

The decision does not currently affect Nintendo Switch 2, but it does affect some accessories. The items affected by this first post-launch price increase have not been revealed, but that’s how it stands. Alarmo will also increase in price in the same market.

Why is the Nintendo Switch increasing in price?

Nintendo notes that “some price adjustments may be necessary in the future,” meaning that it is opening the door to price increases for Switch 2, its games, and those of the original.

Daniel Ahmad, a renowned market analyst at Niko Partners, puts figures on the reason behind this decision: “20% tariff on Vietnam, 30% tariff on China, 15% tariff on Japan. All markets that Nintendo relies on for hardware and software production. Wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo end up raising Switch 2 prices at some point as well,” he emphasizes.

The price increase comes as no surprise. A few weeks ago, we saw an increase in retail prices in regions such as Canada. Sooner or later, it was bound to affect the United States in the same way. Who knows what will happen with Switch 2. The president of Nintendo of America acknowledged in April that he wanted its price to be in line with it being “an accessible device.” It ended up being $449.99. We’ll see.
