Tales of the Shire is the new Lord of the Rings game for PC and consoles

Weta Workshop and Private Division are behind the project, which was announced on International Hobbit Day.

Today, September 22, is International Hobbit Day, given that it marks the birth of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. Can you think of a better time to announce a new video game inspired by The Lord of the Rings? Not for Weta Workshop and Private Division (Take Two), which is why they have revealed the development of Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, a title of which we only know the first - and brief - details.

First things first: just above these lines you can press play to see its first short trailer, which does little to give us an idea of what the game is like, although it does make it clear that it will be full of magic and fantasy. In it, we see a woman drawing in a kind of magic book, along with the confirmation that it will be released sometime in 2024 (PC and consoles to be determined).

The only clue Private Division has left us is the following description: “Your cozy Hobbit life awaits you in Tales of the Shire, a heartwarming new Lord of the Rings™ game.” Of course, we’ll be controlling a Hobbit (perhaps Bilbo or Frodo themselves?), but absolutely nothing is known about the genre or playable mechanics, so we’ll have to wait. If it’s a game about living in peace in the Shire, eating all the different Hobbit meals of the day, and not worrying about any adventures, then we have the definitive cozy game on our hands.

Return to Moria, the next Lord of the Rings game

As we said, we have to wait for more details about the recently announced Tales of the Shire, but did you know that another Lord of the Rings video game is coming out very soon? It’s called Return to Moria, it stars dwarves, and it’s very different from what we’ve seen in other titles set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s saga.
