Tenoch Huerta’s legal troubles: What the actor who plays Namor in the MCU is being accused of

Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta joins the list of talents accused of inappropriate behavior.

Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta has been in the spotlight, and not for the reasons one might expect. The actor, known for his participation in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico and more recently for his arrival in the MCU as Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has been embroiled in a major controversy. Here’s what’s going on with the actor.

What is happening to Tenoch Huerta and what is he being accused of?

Earlier this month, saxophonist and activist Maria Elena Rios accused actor Tenoch Huerta of being a rapist and sexual predator, and the Poder Prieto collective, an organization that “seeks to eradicate systemic racism and promote empathy,” of protecting him. She has become an anti-femicide activist after being permanently maimed in a 2019 acid attack organized by her ex-boyfriend, an influential politician in Mexico.

Tenoch Huerta denies sexual assault allegations

Just last week, Huerta released a statement saying that the allegations were “false and unfounded” and that he had hired a legal team to “protect my reputation and refute these irresponsible and false accusations.” Huerta added in his statement that he is “deeply grateful to my family and the people who have supported me” and that he “greatly appreciates anyone who is willing to look at the facts and reflect before jumping to an untrue and unjust conclusion.

Despite denying the accusation, Huerta has made the decision to drop out of the Netflix film “Fiesta en la Madriguera.” In a statement, he said that “I have no choice but to withdraw from participating in the film,” so as not to allow this accusation “to damage not only me, but also the work of dozens of people.”

Huerta is not the first high-profile Marvel cast member to be publicly accused of sexual assault. In March, Jonathan Majors, who was poised to become Kang The Conqueror, the major villain for the whole Phase 5 following the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was charged with assault and harassment after police responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute in Manhattan.
