MCU
The 10 details from the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer that show how it will resurrect the Marvel Universe
It is the most anticipated superhero movie in years and its latest teaser hides a lot of secrets and clues that anticipate how careful it will be and how spectacular it can be.
The homage of the poster
The new poster of the movie is clearly based on the one of ‘Logan’, Hugh Jackman’s last movie as Wolverine. A joke that recalls the first big question to be answered in this installment: how the hell is his character still alive after what happened in that one?
First look at the villain
The new trailer brings Cassandra Nova, sister of Charles Xavier, Professor X, out of the shadows. She is confirmed as the film’s antagonist and will be the first time such a fearsome character has been adapted for the big screen.
Ant-Man is dead
Cassandra’s base is actually the skeleton of Ant-Man. Apparently, in this universe, Paul Rudd’s character is dead (and a giant at that). No one should rule out that this is a tease about the character’s future in the MCU after ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania. Everyone gets paid here. Humor with no filters or red lines.
The Return of Old Friends
Azazel, Lady Deathstrike, Pyro, Sabretooth, and Sap are some of the mutants who seem to be back. Characters who deserve better treatment and with whom Marvel could redeem itself this time around.
Doctor Strange?
How many cameos does the movie have up its sleeve? Because those sparking magic circles are suspiciously reminiscent of the ones Doctor Strange summons to travel between dimensions. Most likely, the multiverse will once again play with the audience’s minds.
A nod to video games
Logan’s scene in the bar is exactly the same as the one in the first trailer for ‘Wolverine’, the character game that Insomniac Games (the developer responsible for Marvel’s Spider-Man) is working on. Hopefully, the studio will respond with new news on the status of the project (or with the inclusion of Deadpool...).
And the Mad Max saga
As with the previous ‘Deadpool’ movies, get ready for plenty of fourth-wall-breaking scenes and a smorgasbord of references to the best of cinema and popular culture. In the image, a nod to the unforgettable Mad Max: Fury Road.
Some drama
It’s not all action and jokes. In one scene in the trailer, Logan is seen standing next to the graves of the X-Men. He appears as we hear someone in the background say, “This Wolverine has let his whole world down. There is a reality in which he drinks to forget that the rest of his teammates lost their lives because of him.
Connection to ‘Loki
Another of those seen in the new trailer is Alioth, the terrifying creature that appeared in the Loki series and protects The Void. Presumably with The One Who Remains out of action, this cloud of darkness that looks like something out of ‘Lost’ is now under Cassandra’s command. A fearsome weapon.
Love for the comics
Although the Deadpool movies often seem to embrace madness and jokes for the sake of jokes, they are planned down to the smallest detail and the character’s comics are studied to the point of absurdity. Many have noticed the scene in the trailer in which a shop called “Liefeld’s just feet” is in the background, a clear reference to the antihero’s creator, Rob Liefeld, and the most repeated criticism of him, and that was that he was not good at drawing the feet of his characters.
