The blunt warning about the future of ‘Berserk’ from Kentaro Miura’s heir: “It will be imperfect”

These statements address the difficulty of reviving a series after the death of its creator.

berserk

Berserk’ is one of the most important manga of all time. Kentaro Miura’s work started to be published in 1989 and with its constant interruptions it has reached our days. The worst possible news for followers of the story of Guts, Griffith and company was the death of its author, leaving the work unfinished. In the end, however, this was not the case, as his friend Koji Mori and Miura’s group of assistants, Studio Gaga, took over. Mori talked about this in Berserk Volume 42.

In volume 42, Koji Mori, the author himself, leaves an emotional message in which he talks about the difficulty of the challenge after the death of Kentaro Miura: “Thank you very much for picking up Berserk Volume 42. From here on, it will be Berserk without Miura. Naturally, it’s going to be imperfect. I’m sure there are those who will find that hard to accept. I myself feel that same way.” Koji Mori went on to talk about what it means to continue the work, noting that “as a manga artist and as a fan, no one is more of a Miura fundamentalist or admirer than I am. But as the one who was closest to him, and as a good friend, I can’t simply neglect the story he was trying to complete. I ask that you please pardon me for that.”

An unsurpassable legacy

Continuing a work as important as Berserk without its original creator is a task of enormous responsibility, as Koji Mori makes clear by emphasizing that “all the editors and everyone on the Gaga staff are working as hard as they can to live up to Berserk and Miura’s legacy. Each volume that’s published from here will be the embodiment of that sentiment. All of you who love Berserk, may your thoughts always be with them! And I’d love it if you’d be willing to give us your support until the very end..”

An emotional message in the first volume released without the presence of Kentaro Miura. Finally, Koji Mouri closed with “sincere thanks to everyone involved with Berserk, and to everyone who loves it.”
